Day 1: Shaped by Something
Devotional
Whether we realize it or not, something is forming us right now. Our habits, our feeds, our relationships, the content we consume daily, all of it is quietly shaping who we are becoming. The question is not whether formation is happening. It is whether we are paying attention to what is doing the forming. Paul opens Romans 12 with a word that feels almost urgent: "I appeal to you." He is not issuing a cold command. He is making a heartfelt plea, rooted in the mercy God has already shown us. Because of everything God has done, we are invited to respond with our whole lives. This is good news. It means we are not stuck. We are not locked into whoever we have been up to this point. But it does require honesty. It requires us to pause and ask: what is actually shaping me right now? Is it the noise of culture, the scroll of a screen, the opinions of others? Or is it the presence and Word of Jesus? You do not have to have it all figured out today. But awareness is always the first step toward change. And the fact that you are here, reading this, is already a sign that something in you wants more. That desire is worth following.
Bible Verse
"I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." - Romans 12:1
Reflection Question
If you honestly traced the biggest influences on your thoughts and values over the past month, what would you find shaping you most?
Quote
"All of us are being formed and shaped by something. The question is, do you know what it is?"
Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to what is forming me. Give me the courage to be honest about what I have been giving my attention to, and draw me closer to You. Amen.
Day 2: A Living Sacrifice
Devotional
Most of us think of worship as something that happens on a Sunday morning. But Paul reframes it completely. Presenting yourself as a living sacrifice, someone who stays active in daily life while giving all of that life to Jesus, is itself an act of worship. A living sacrifice is a striking image. Unlike the sacrifices of the Old Testament, this one does not end at the altar. It walks back out into the world, into the workplace, the home, the neighborhood, and continues to offer itself. Every decision, every relationship, every ordinary moment becomes an opportunity to say, "Jesus, this belongs to You." This is not about being perfect. It is about being available. It is about waking up each day and placing yourself at His disposal, trusting that He can do something meaningful with a willing heart. That kind of availability is not passive. It is one of the most active things a person can do. And here is the encouraging part: you do not have to manufacture the transformation yourself. Your job is to show up. His job is to do the work that only He can do in you. Start there. Just show up.
Bible Verse
"I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." - Romans 12:1
Reflection Question
In what area of your daily life is it hardest to say, "Jesus, this belongs to You," and what might it look like to offer that area to Him today?
Quote
"The way that we live our lives, the way that we present ourselves as available to Jesus is an act of worship."
Prayer
Jesus, I want to be available to You beyond Sunday mornings. Take my ordinary days and make them an act of worship. Amen.
Day 3: Don't Drift, Decide
Devotional
No one accidentally becomes a devoted follower of Jesus. It does not happen by default. Left to the current of culture, social media, and the constant noise of modern life, we will be quietly pressed into a mold that has nothing to do with who God has called us to be. Paul puts it plainly: do not be conformed to this world. The word "conformed" carries the idea of being squeezed into a shape from the outside. Culture is always applying that pressure, often in ways we do not even notice until we look back and wonder how we got here. Transformation works differently. It is not forced on us from the outside. It grows from the inside, through a renewed mind, through intentional choices, through the quiet and consistent work of the Holy Spirit. But it does require our participation. We have to decide. The good news is that you do not have to overhaul your entire life today. Transformation is built through small, consistent steps. One honest conversation with God. One chapter of Scripture. One decision to show up. These small choices, repeated over time, are how real change takes root. Decide today, even in one small way, to move toward Jesus rather than drift away from Him.
Bible Verse
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind." - Romans 12:2
Reflection Question
Where in your life have you been drifting rather than deciding, and what is one small step you could take this week to be more intentional?
Quote
"No one drifts to being a dedicated follower of Jesus."
Prayer
Holy Spirit, where I have been drifting, help me to decide. Renew my mind and give me the courage to take one step toward You today. Amen.
Day 4: We Become What We Behold
Devotional
There is a simple but powerful principle at work in every human life: we become what we behold. Whatever we fix our eyes on, whatever we give our sustained attention to, quietly shapes us from the inside out. This is not just a spiritual idea. It is something we experience every day. Spend enough time around cynical people and cynicism starts to feel normal. Fill your mind with anxiety-producing content and anxiety becomes your default setting. But the reverse is also true. Fix your attention on Jesus, spend time in His Word, talk to Him honestly in prayer, and you will begin to look more like Him over time. This is why intentionality matters so much. What occupies our attention can exert an influence long before we ever realize it. We rarely notice the slow drift until we are already far from where we wanted to be. You have more agency here than you might think. You can shift where you place your attention. You can choose, even in small ways, to look toward Jesus more consistently. That shift, practiced daily, is how transformation actually happens. It is not dramatic. It is faithful. And faithful, over time, is what changes everything.
Bible Verse
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind." - Romans 12:2
Reflection Question
When you honestly look at what you give your attention to most throughout the day, does it reflect someone who wants to become more like Jesus?
Quote
"We become what we behold."
Prayer
Lord, help me to fix my eyes on You above everything else. Shape me by what I behold, and let that be Your face. Amen.
Day 5: Pick One and Begin
Devotional
By now, you may be feeling the weight of all of this. Formation, intentionality, transformation, it can start to feel overwhelming. But here is the most practical and freeing truth of all: you do not have to do everything at once. You just have to begin. Real transformation rarely comes through a single dramatic moment. It comes through small, consistent choices made over a long period of time. A 1% change, repeated faithfully, adds up to something remarkable. One honest prayer. One chapter of Scripture read slowly. One Sunday showing up to worship with others. One small group where you let people actually know you. These are not small things dressed up as big ones. They are genuinely the way that lasting change happens. And the more you grow to love Jesus through these practices, the more naturally you will love the people around you. Formation is never just personal. It ripples outward. So do not wait until you feel ready or until life slows down. Pick one practice. Commit to it this week. Place yourself in the conditions where Jesus can do His work in you, and trust that He will. He is faithful, and He is for you. Begin.
Bible Verse
"I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." - Romans 12:1
Reflection Question
What is the one spiritual practice you have been putting off that, if you started this week, could begin to change the direction of your formation?
Quote
"Pick one and begin."
Prayer
Jesus, I do not want to wait any longer. Show me the one step to take, and give me the courage to take it. I trust You with the rest. Amen.
