Day 1: More Than Information
Devotional
Most of us have heard it all before. Forgive. Serve. Love difficult people. Put God first. We nod along, maybe even take notes, and then walk out the door and live the same way we always have. The gap between what we know and how we live is real. And if we are honest, it can be discouraging. But here is the good news: the problem is not that you are broken beyond repair. The problem is traction. You know the right things. Now it is time to do them. Faith was never designed to be a set of ideas we agree with. It was designed to be a way of life we step into. Every day. One choice at a time. Think about Thomas. He had walked with Jesus for three years. He had seen miracles. He knew the truth. But when the pressure came, knowing was not enough. He needed to act on what he believed. That same invitation is in front of you today. You do not need more information. You need to take one step forward with what you already know. It does not have to be a giant leap. It just has to be a step. You cannot change yesterday. But today? Today is wide open.
Bible Verse
"Thomas said to him, 'My Lord and my God!'" - John 20:28
Reflection Question
What is one thing you already know you should be doing that you have been putting off, and what is keeping you from taking that first step today?
Quote
"Faith was never meant to be something we just believe in. Faith was meant to be something we do with what we believe in."
Prayer
Lord, thank You that You do not ask me to have it all figured out before I move. Give me the courage to take one step of obedience today, and help me trust that You will meet me there. Amen.
Day 2: You Are the One He Is Looking For
Devotional
We have all been there. Something does not go the way we hoped. A prayer goes unanswered. A relationship falls apart. A door closes. And instead of pressing forward, we pull back. That is exactly where Thomas found himself. He missed the moment Jesus appeared to the other disciples, and rather than choosing to believe His closest friends, He chose to pout. What started as sadness slowly hardened into doubt. Self-pity has a way of doing that. It starts as a feeling and, if we hold onto it long enough, it becomes a posture. A way of seeing everything. But here is what is so beautiful about this story. Jesus did not leave Thomas in that place. Eight days later, He came back. Not to scold Thomas. Not to shame him. He came back with an invitation: see for yourself, touch for yourself, and believe. Jesus does the same for you. He does not give up on you when you are in your pouting season. He shows up and calls you forward. The question is whether you will let the temporary campsite of sorrow become a permanent home. You do not have to stay there. Jesus is calling you out.
Bible Verse
"A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you!'" - John 20:26
Reflection Question
Is there an area of your life where disappointment has quietly shifted from a season of grief into a settled posture of doubt or giving up?
Quote
"When we hang on to the pouting, the self pity. We move from sadness to madness. We change momentary regret into constant faithlessness."
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for coming back for Thomas, and for coming back for me. Where I have let sadness turn into faithlessness, I ask You to meet me there and call me forward. Amen.
Bible Verse
"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." - Luke 19:10
Reflection Question
In what area of your life have you assumed God has given up on you, and how does the image of the searching shepherd challenge that assumption?
Quote
"We are the lost coin. We are the lost sheep. Jesus is the one pursuing us, seeking a relationship with us because of His great love."
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being a God who pursues and does not give up. Help me to believe today that I am worth searching for, and give me the courage to stop running. Amen.
Day 3: He Wants More Than a Sliver of Your Life
Devotional
It is easy to give God a compartment. Sunday mornings. A few minutes in the morning before the day takes over. A quick prayer when things get hard. We mean well, but somewhere along the way, faith becomes one item on a long list rather than the foundation everything else is built on. Jesus was direct about this. He did not call people to add Him to their existing lives. He called them to follow Him, which meant rearranging everything around that decision. The fishermen left their nets. Matthew walked away from his tax booth. These were not small adjustments. Following Jesus does not mean your life gets easier. He actually said it would be harder. But it is the best life available to us, because it is the life we were designed for. When He becomes the framework instead of just a feature, everything else begins to find its proper place. This is not about being more religious. It is about letting someone who loves you completely take the lead.
Bible Verse
"And Jesus said to him, 'If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.'" - Matthew 19:21
Reflection Question
If you are honest with yourself, what area of your life have you been most reluctant to hand over to Jesus, and why?
Quote
"He wants all of you. He doesn't just want your 11:30 to 12:15 on Sunday. He doesn't just want five or 10 minutes a few days a week that you get up early to pray or read your Bible. Jesus doesn't want just a few moments of your time. He doesn't want just a sliver of your life. He wants all of you."
Prayer
Lord, I want to give You more than just the edges of my life. Help me to loosen my grip on the things I have been holding back, and teach me what it means to truly follow You. Amen.
Day 4: The Twin Inside You
Devotional
The things he did not want to do, he kept doing. If that sounds familiar, you are in good company. Inside each of us lives a version of ourselves that doubts, pulls back, and pouts when life gets hard. Call it your twin. That twin shows up at the worst moments, whispering that it is not worth it, that nothing will change, that you might as well give up. Thomas had that twin too. And for eight days, the twin was winning. But then Jesus spoke. "Do not be faithless any longer. Believe." And that was enough. You will not silence that inner voice through willpower alone. You silence it the same way Thomas did: by listening to the voice of Jesus over the voice of your doubt. That means staying in His Word. Staying connected to His people. Staying in a posture of worship even when you do not feel like it. The twin will show up again. That is guaranteed. But so will Jesus. And His voice is louder, if you will listen for it. Do not be faithless any longer. Believe.
Bible Verse
"As for Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, he was not with the disciples when Jesus came." - John 20:24
Reflection Question
When your inner voice of doubt shows up, what habits or practices help you tune into the voice of Jesus instead, and which ones make it harder?
Quote
"In me is my twin, my twin who doesn't always believe, who doesn't always act right, who doesn't always respond right, who sometimes gets pouty."
Prayer
Lord, when my doubts feel louder than my faith, remind me of Your voice. Help me choose to believe even when every part of me wants to pull back. Amen.
Day 5: Sent Out to Make a Difference
Devotional
After Thomas made his declaration, Jesus did not say, great, now go rest. He said, as the Father has sent Me, I am sending you. That is the rhythm of the Christian life. We encounter Jesus. We are changed by Jesus. And then we are sent by Jesus. You have a world around you that needs what you have found. Your neighborhood. Your workplace. Your family dinner table. These are not obstacles to your faith. They are the mission field. You do not have to have all the answers. You do not have to be a theologian. You just have to be willing. Ask God to open a door today, and watch what He does. It might be a conversation you did not plan. A moment of kindness that costs you nothing but means everything to someone else. A small piece of blank paper, as it were, that God uses to change a life. Finishing well does not happen by accident. It happens one decision at a time. One act of obedience at a time. One sent moment at a time. You were not saved just to sit. You were saved to be sent. And today is a great day to start.
Bible Verse
"Again Jesus said, 'Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.'" - John 20:21
Reflection Question
Who in your life right now might need you to show up for them the way Jesus showed up for Thomas, and what would that actually look like this week?
Quote
"Jesus gives you the greatest reason for getting up every morning. He sends you out like the Father sent Him out."
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for sending me with purpose. Open my eyes to the people around me who need Your love, and give me the courage to show up for them today. Amen.
